Biography
Love him or hate him, but you got to admit, that Shawn Michaels is one of the best wrestlers ever to step into the squared circle. He got the abilities and the charisma to go all the way, he has had his ups and downs, but to quote the man, he is the headliner, the show stopper, the main eventer and the true icon of wrestling.

The beginning

Shawn Michaels had a strong desire to become a wrestler, so when he was 18 years old he started training under the guidance of Jose Lothario. Two weeks after Shawn's nineteenth birthday, Shawn was ready for his first match in the Mid-South Wrestling organisation. The match came underway, and even though Shawn lost to Art Cruz, he showed what he is capable of. Shawn wrestled to a time limit draw in his next match, before he won his third match.

After six months in Mid-South Shawn moved on to Kansas City, which was run by Bob Geigel, here Shawn met Marty Jannetty. Three months later Shawn started to work in the Texas All-Star Wrestling, where he started teaming with Paul Diamond, together they were known as the American Force. They won the Texas All-Star Tag Team Title twice and had a wild feud with the Masked Hoods.

In 1986 Shawn started teaming with Marty Jannetty and together they were known as the Midnight Rockers. The team was an instant success, winning the NWA Central States Tag Team Title, but they were only able to hold on to it for a week, winning and loosing it to Bart and Brad Batten.

In the end of 1986 the Midnight Rockers joined the American Wrestling Association, where they won the AWA World Tag Team Title. In the AWA they got a lot of TV time, which made the WWF interested in them, they were at asked to come to a TV taping, but they had too much fun at nightclub, which got them fired the next day.

The Midnight Rockers continued their success in the AWA, where they won the Southern Tag Team Title twice, they feuded with the RPMs for the title. When Shawn and Marty won the AWA World Tag Team Title for a second time the WWF got interested again, and this time the Midnight Rockers behaved for a while.

WWF

Together with Marty Jannetty, Shawn Michaels entered the WWF now as the Rockers in 1988, a duo which quickly became a success with the fans, because of their high flying abilities. But at that time the WWF concentrated its tag team division on the heavyweights, with the Hart Foundation and Demolition as its cornerstones.

But that didn't stop the Rockers from trying, they took on all comers and even though they lost many of their feuds to the established heavyweight teams, they still captured the hearts of the fans. On of their best feuds in the first year in the WWF was with the Rougeau Brothers, which showed two of the best technical teams going at it.

In 1990 the Rockers started feuding with Power & Glory (Hercules and Paul Roma), at Summer Slam Hercules used his chain to take out Shawn's knee. In 1990 the Rockers also had a match with the Hart Foundation for the WWF Tag Team Title, the Rockers won the match, but since the top rope broke during the match the title change wasn't acknowledged by the WWF, even though they have talked about it on TV in 1997.

The Rockers and the Orient Express then started feuding, which ended at Royal Rumble 1991 with a victory to the Rockers. After the loss at Survivor Series, Shawn wasn't happy he blamed it on Marty, and said that he carried the team.


Going single
The two then agreed to meet at the Barber Shop in early 1992, an interview segment hosted by Brutus Beefcake, at first it looked like the two would settle their differences and start teaming again, but instead Shawn attacked Marty and threw him through a window, which ended the Rockers relationship.

Shawn took Sensational Sherri as his valet, and stated that he was "The Sexiest Man Alive" and he was "God's Gift To Women". Shawn's new attitude quickly sent him into the title picture, he had some great matches the during spring and summer with Bret Hart for the Intercontinental Title, but failed to come out on top.

Before Summer Slam 1992 Shawn and "The Model" Rick Martel had a feud about who should have Sherri as a valet, the feud ended at Summer Slam, where they fought to a double count-out and Sherri got soaked. At Summer Slam the British Bulldog won the Intercontinental Title from Bret Hart, and Shawn set his sight on a title shot more.

The match took place on the last installment of Saturday Night's Main Event on October 27, 1992. In one of the best matches in 1992 Shawn came out on top and was the new Intercontinental Champion. With the gold around his waist, Shawn became greedy and challenged World Champion Bret Hart for his title, Shawn didn't win the match, but the match set the standard for the feud with Bret Hart during 1995 to 1997.

But Shawn still had the Intercontinental belt this lured Marty Jannetty back to the WWF for revenge. Marty wanted to crush a mirror on Shawn's head, but Shawn heaved Sherri in front of him, and she took the whole blow, Shawn wisely ran out of the ring, and thereby dropped Sherri as his valet. The incident meant that Sherri wanted revenge on Shawn, but Shawn still came out on top of the confrontation with Marty at the Royal Rumble, who had Sherri in his corner.

The next contender for the IC Title was Tatanka, who could pin Shawn in non-title and tag team matches, but when it was for the gold, Shawn wisely enough stayed out of the ring, so Tatanka couldn't win the gold. The feud with Tatanka and Sherri ended when Shawn brought out Luna Vachon as his valet for WrestleMania IX, she took out Sherri.

On May 17, 1993, during Monday Night Raw, Shawn was being interviewed. In the interview, he said he could beat anyone anyplace, anytime. Just when he said that, Marty Jannetty came into the ring and challenged Shawn. Shawn of course had to accept the challenge. Later on that night, the match took place and Marty defeated Shawn to become the Intercontinental Champion.

Shawn had an ace up his sleeve though, on June 6 he demanded a rematch and got it, this time he brought out a bodyguard, a seven foot, 300 lbs monster, and he made sure that Shawn defeated Marty to regain the WWF Intercontinental Title for the second time. Shawn's bodyguard got a name at King of the Ring 1993, and it was Diesel (Kevin Nash), who also became a good friend of Shawn.

Mr. Perfect was the next contender for the IC title, but again with the help of Diesel, Shawn still had the belt. In the start of September, Shawn was stripped of the Intercontinental Title, because he didn't defend it within the 30 day limit. The real reason of the stripping was because of contractual problems with the WWF.


Back in action
At Survivor Series 1993, Shawn returned taking the place of Jerry "The King" Lawler, to do battle with the Hart Family. Shawn was back, and one of the first things he did was to claim that he still was the Intercontinental Champion, because he never had lost the belt, this started a feud with the real Intercontinental Champion, Razor Ramon.

Shawn and Diesel attacked Razor on any given time, and Shawn knocked Razor out in Razor's match against IRS at the Royal Rumble, causing Razor to loose the title, but the decision was later reversed. In the battle royal at Royal Rumble, Shawn "accidentally" eliminated Diesel, which was only the beginning of future feud.

Shawn's attacks on Razor was the setup for WrestleMania X, where the two clashed in a Ladder Match to determine, who the real Intercontinental Champion was. In one of the best matches ever, which showed both Razor and Shawn's abilities, Razor came out on top.

Shawn continued his feud with Razor by putting his bodyguard Diesel up against "the bad guy", and together the two ended Razor's title regain. Diesel and Shawn also started to make an impact in the tag team scene, and quickly they got a title shot at the champions the Headshrinkers. It was the night before Summer Slam, where Diesel had to defend his IC Title against Razor, the match took place, Shawn and Diesel put up an impressive performance and came out on top as the new Tag Team Champions.

At Summer Slam, Shawn was in Diesel's corner as usual, but this time the plan backfired, Shawn wanted Razor to taste the Sweet Chin Music, but Razor moved out of the way and instead he hit Diesel, and this cost Diesel the match and the Intercontinental Title. You could feel the tension between Shawn and Diesel but they kept cool as they were still the Tag Team Champions, but something was not right in the Heartbreak Hotel.

Survivor Series 1994, Owen Hart, Jim Neidhart, Jeff Jarrett, Shawn, and Diesel was in an elimination match against Razor Ramon, 1-2-3 Kid, the British Bulldog, and the Headshrinkers. Diesel was cleaning house only Razor was left on the other team, when Shawn wanted to use his Sweet Chin Music, but again it failed its target and hit Diesel. This was the end of the Tag Team Champions and the relationship between Shawn and Diesel, the next day the title was vacated.

Shortly after Diesel became the WWF World Champion and Shawn desperately wanted to get revenge on his old friend, but to get a shot at the champion he had to win the Royal Rumble 1995. Shawn entered as number 1, but he kept on fighting and proved that he had the stamina to fight a long grueling battle, and in the end Shawn had his hand raised as the winner of the Royal Rumble, which meant that he would meet Diesel at WrestleMania XI.

Shawn hired a new bodyguard as well, the psychotic Sid should now replace Diesel. At WrestleMania it didn't go as Shawn had planed, he couldn't quite topple Diesel, and Sid's interfered on the wrong times so he wasn't to much help. Diesel won the match and this left Shawn with something to think about.


A face turn
The next day at Monday Night Raw, Shawn and Diesel was scheduled to have a match against each other. In an interview before the match Diesel said that the relationship with Shawn had affected him, and Sid would never be a help for Shawn. Shawn also had an interview, where he stated that he couldn't forget the friendship with Diesel and he didn't need a bodyguard. This got Sid mad he powerbombed Shawn three times before Diesel came to Shawn's rescue.

The incident left Shawn out in the dark for a month, but in his return match he seemed stronger than ever, defeating Yokozuna in his return match, and this time the fans cheered him on. Shawn also qualified to the King of the Ring tournament, but he wasn't able to advance as he wrestled to a time limit draw with Kama, but this brought Shawn back into the title spotlight, as he started feuding with then Intercontinental Champion Jeff Jarrett.

Shawn and Jeff Jarrett clashed at In Your House 2, and in a match displaying both the skills of Shawn and Jeff, Shawn won the match and for a third time became Intercontinental Champion. The gold around his waist lured old enemies back, Sid and Razor, who both wanted a shot at the new champion.

Shawn and Razor clashed at Summer Slam 1995, in yet another unforgettable Ladder Match, this match was just as exciting as the first, but this time with a different outcome. Shawn defeated Razor and went on to defeat Sid in a match the next day at Monday Night Raw, this showed that he was a true and great champion.

Diesel and Shawn found back together again, and the Two Dudes with Attitude went on to defeat the WWF Tag Team Champions, Yokozuna and the British Bulldog, who subbed for Owen, in a match with all titles on the line. Diesel and Shawn won the match, but had to give back the Tag Team Title since they pinned an illegal man (Owen Hart who rushed to the ring). After Shawn's time with good luck, bad luck struck him again, but this time outside the wrestling ring. In October of 1995, Shawn was attacked outside a nightclub by several thugs, the numerous injuries forced him to hand over the Intercontinental Title to Dean Douglas, and Shawn was left out in the cold for yet another month.

Shortly before Survivor Series Shawn returned with a new fire, now he wanted the World Title, but on an installment of Monday Night Raw, in a match against Owen Hart, Owen hit Shawn with a kick to the back of the head, which made the lights go out for Michaels, who laid flat on his back. But this didn't set Shawn back, but yet again Shawn had to win the Royal Rumble to get a shot at the World Champion.

Shawn entered the Royal Rumble, but I don't think that he had expected he would eliminate his friend Diesel to win the battle royal for a second time in a row. Shawn would now have to face WWF World Champion Bret Hart at WrestleMania XII in a one-hour Iron Man Match. This special stipulation got Shawn to bring back his old trainer, Jose Lothario, to manage him. One of the stupidest thing the WWF has ever done was to talk about it being Shawn's boyhood dream to win the WWF World Title, but strangely enough nothing like that was mentioned the year before or in 1992, so WWF wise up.


World Champion
The match is one of the best in WWF history, so if you haven't seen the match yet go get the tape. The match went back and forth, with each man showing that they are some of the best in the business. In the final seconds of the ordinary match, with the score 0-0, Bret had Shawn in the sharpshooter, when the time ran out, Gorilla Monsoon decided, that the match should continue, with sudden death rules. Shawn won the match with the Sweet Chin Music and became WWF World Champion for the first time, but in my opinion both wrestlers had pride in this match.

Bret left the WWF after the match, and one of the reasons for his hatred for Shawn Michaels is the "Clique". The "Clique" which consisted of Shawn Michaels, Diesel (Kevin Nash), Razor (Scott Hall), Hunter Hearst Helmsley, and 1-2-3 Kid (Sean Waltman, SYXX), who is friends outside of the squared circle, and apparently they played a big part in the booking department in WWF.

Diesel had turned heel after the Royal Rumble and blamed Shawn for it, the incident happened during a tag match between Diesel and Shawn against Bret and the Undertaker, Diesel went wild and attacked Bret and the Undertaker with a chair, and he also took out his frustrations on Shawn. Shawn and Diesel started a short but violent feud, with Michaels on top. Next in line was the British Bulldog, the feud started with the British Bulldog and his wife Diana blamed Shawn for making a move on Diana, but the angle was dropped since the fans disapproved. But the feud continued with two technical good matches, but the Bulldog couldn't take the title from Shawn.

Vader was the next monster to try to get Shawn knocked down, but even though Vader could pin Shawn in tag team matches, Shawn was the one who came out with the win in singles action. Shawn had a great match with Mankind at In Your House 10.

The psychotic Sid was the next to try to end Michaels regain. The match was fought at Survivor Series 1996, where the fans booed Shawn, during the match Sid attacked Jose Lothario by hitting him with a camera. Instead of paying attention to the match, Shawn wanted to help Jose, because he didn't pay attention, Sid powerbombed Shawn and won the title.

Bret Hart returned to the WWF at the Survivor Series 1996, and he blamed Shawn for a lot of things that had gone bad in the WWF, he also blamed Shawn for his defeat to Sid at In Your House 12. The boiling of a new interesting feud between the two superstars was under the way, but we had to wait a year before the actual match took place.

Shawn got a rematch with Sid at the Royal Rumble 1997 in Shawn's home town San Antonio, Texas. This time Shawn was the one who used a camera to get the title and become WWF World Champion for a second time. It looked like the dream match between Shawn and Bret would take place at WrestleMania 13, but then at Thursday Raw Thursday, February 13,1997, Shawn forfeited the title due to injuries and also because he "lost his smile". Believe me Bret was ready to explode. Personally I think it was an attempt to get out of his contract with the WWF, so he could join his friends in the WCW.


Part 2In March, Shawn showed up at Monday Night Raw. He said that he found his smile, it was "In San Antonio where I left it" he said. He got a positive crowd response, Shawn appeared to be happier, and with that the feud with Bret Hart continued, with Bret and later the Hart Foundation criticising and attacking Shawn on any given opportunity.

Steve Austin was also in the spotlight of the Hart Foundation, so Shawn and Austin decided to fight the Foundation together even though they didn't have high thoughts about each other. May 25, 1997, At Raw is War Shawn and Austin defeated Owen Hart and the British Bulldog to capture the WWF Tag Team Title.

The Hart Foundation understood how to use the tension between the Tag Team Champions, so a match between Shawn and Austin was signed for the King of the Ring. The champs fought each other to a double disqualification.

On June 9th Bret Hart attacked Shawn in the locker rooms before a Raw is War taping, suffering neck and a knee injury, Shawn left and vowed never to return, but he did at July 14. Shawn was assigned to be the special referee in the WWF World Title match between Bret Hart and the Undertaker. During the match Bret shoved and spit Shawn in the face, Shawn wanted to use the chair on Bret, but he moved and the Undertaker took the full blow, and Shawn could do nothing but to count the three count and declare Bret the new WWF World Champion.


Degeneration X
The fans accused Shawn of being a traitor to the USA, since it was when the USA - Canada feud had its peak. Shawn took the consequences, August 4, Shawn turned heel by branding Vince McMahon "the dumbest son of a bitch he has ever met in his life" and told the fans "to go to hell". Shawn then got himself an "insurance policy" in Rick Rude, who made sure that Shawn defeated Mankind.

Shawn and Hunter Hearst Helmsley had a match against Undertaker and Mankind, August 18. In the end of the match Shawn used a chair on the Undertaker, which busted him open, and thereby started a feud between them. Their first encounter was at Ground Zero, where they delivered a strong performance and fought to a no contest.

Shawn, Hunter Hearst Helmsley, Chyna, and Rick Rude stuck their heads together and formed their own group Degeneration X and started feuding with the Hart Foundation, especially the Bulldog, who Shawn defeated to capture the WWF European Title, which made him the first ever WWF Grand Slam Champion, by winning all four titles in the WWF.

The feud with the Undertaker continued at Badd Blood, with a "Hell in a Cell" match, the winner would face WWF World Champion, Bret Hart, at Survivor Series. This match was a classic, they fought inside the cage, outside the cage, and on top of the cage, truly fantastic, Shawn won the match with a helping hand from Kane.

At the Survivor Series the bitter rivals tore the house down until the ending, where Shawn had Bret in the Sharpshooter, when suddenly the bell rang, and Shawn was declared the WWF World Champion for a third time. The surprise ending was McMahon's decision because Bret was going to WCW, and he didn't want them to use that Bret was champion when he left.

The Degeneration X have certainly had an impact on the WWF by mocking every wrestler and announcer and especially Sgt. Slaughter. Degeneration X have had some memorable skits, one was when they were commentating a match while eating bananas, "mini" Bret Hart and the following going away "present" to Jim Neidhart, and the Strip Poker Game. Shawn had a short feud with Ken Shamrock, but Shamrock didn't walk away with the title. In a clown match, Shawn lost the European Title to Hunter Hearst Helmsley, because he had to defend it.

The feud with the Undertaker has started again, this time they will meet each other in a Casket Match at the Royal Rumble. Shawn tried to "destroy" the Undertaker by letting Kane, Undertaker's brother join the Degeneration X, but instead Shawn got whacked by both the Undertaker and Kane.

At the Royal Rumble, Shawn and the Undertaker again proved that they can put up some great matches. This time Shawn came out on top again with the help of Kane, who after the match set the casket on fire. Since Steve Austin won the battle royal, Shawn will have to face him at WrestleMania 14, where I expect a great match.


Steve Austin
Unfortunately Shawn has suffered some injuries to his knee and back during his match with the Undertaker, which will sideline him for a while, but hopefully he will be ready for WrestleMania. The feud with Steve Austin heated up when Austin stole Shawn's belt, but together with the rest of Degeneration X and the New Age Outlaws, Shawn and the WWF World Title was reunited. This was the setup for In Your House 20, where Degeneration X and the New Age Outlaws will face the team of Austin, Owen Hart, Cactus Jack, and Terry Funk. Shawn wasn't able to make it to IYH because of his injuries.

At Raw is War, March 2, Degeneration X had a little surprise, a new member, who turned out to be none other than Mike Tyson, first Shawn and Mike circled around each other, but then Shawn rips Tyson's shirt off to reveal a DX T-shirt. Later that night Shawn hit Austin with the Sweet Chin Music, which made the back injury worse.

Shawn and Steve Austin clashed at WrestleMania, where they despite their injuries put up a great match, Shawn lost the match, when he went for the Sweet Chin Music, but Austin avoided and applied the Stunner for the win. Tyson made the count and didn't interfere in the match, after the match Austin gave Tyson a Austin 3:16 shirt. Shawn yelled at Tyson and got short right to the jaw, turning Tyson DX was a good thing, but letting Tyson turn on Michaels for no apparent reason is a joke. Shawn will now get some time to heal his injuries.


Out of action, but back as commissioner
The WWF have lead Shawn to one of the best doctors in the US to take care of him. He has gotten new orthopedic furniture and has been working in his swimming pool. The discs were originally herniated and they then ruptured. Shawn is making slow progress though. There is no definite date in which the WWF expects Shawn to return. He is now starting to get full nights of sleep. He had not had full nights of sleep since January. The WWF is hoping that this is the start of Shawn's recovery.

Shawn returned to the WWF on Raw is War, July 13, as a commentator, he recieved a huge pop and came out to his old music. I still think it will take some time before he enters the ring, but it's good to have him back. Shawn also appeared at Raw is War the next week where he joined the broadcast team again.

At the Raw is War sending from August 24, Shawn showed up again this time he saved Chyna from getting a kiss from Mark Henry, after his knight in shining amour appearence Shawn joined the broadcast team.

Shawn was named the commissioner of the WWF at Raw is War, November 23, and he quickly made a match between Rocky Maivia and X-Pac. Before the match Michaels entertained himself with DX, but during the match Maivia wanted to nail X-Pac with a chair, but Shawn took it and nailed X-Pac - thereby he sealed his deal with Vince McMahon. The next week at Raw is War, X-Pac confronted Shawn, who answered back with a match against Ken Shamrock. During the match Shawn pulled out the referee as X-Pac hit Shamrock with his finishing move, this brought down a returning Hunter Hearst Helmsley.

Shawn and the rest of the corporation has tried to convine the New Age Outlaws to join Vince McMahon's stable and at Raw is War, December 7, it seemed as they had succeded, but the NAO turned on the corporation and rejoined Degeneration X the same evening.

At Raw is War, December 14, Degeneration X made a parody of the Corporation, which didn't sit well with Shawn, who ordered a match between Shamrock/Boss Man against the New Age Outlaws. Shawn helped Shamrock and Boss Man to win the titles. Shawn also interfered in a match between Hunter and Rocky Maivia, but Chyna took care of him.

Shawn saved Ken Shamrock from losing the Intercontinental Title to Bad Ass Billy Gunn, when Gunn had won the match cleanly, Shawn stated that it was a non-title match. The next week on Raw is War, Vince wanted to fire Shawn due to the fact, that he didn't send in the troops, when Shane was being manhandled by Mankind the following week. When Vince had done his deed it looked like Michaels was walking away, but he delivered the Sweet Chin Music to Vince, and then escaped through the crowd, when the rest of the Corporation ran in.

The next week at Raw is War, Vince and the rest of the Corporation had heard rumors of Shawn appearing, and Michaels showed up with the rest of Degeneration X. Michaels then stated that he had an iron clad contract, which meant that he couldn't be fired. Shawn also made a change to the Royal Rumble, where Vince McMahon had to enter as #30, Michaels changed that to #2, since Austin had #1. Later Team Corporate smashed Shawn's head through a windshield, he was bleeding all over and rushed to hospital, this will explaine Shawn's absence as he will have surgery on his back. Shawn was also partly responsible for another blow to the Corporation as he had promised something that would drive Vince Stone Cold. This turned out to be the returning Steve Austin who nailed the Corporate champion Rocky Maivia with chair, giving Mankind the win and the title.

Shawn got his back surgery, January 12, 1999, but the doctors have told him to retire, but that doesn't mean that the WWF have taken him out of their story lines. At Sunday Night Heat, January 17, Shawn ordered a match between Kane and the Rock to take place at Raw is War the next night. Shawn will open a wrestling school and his own federation together with his mentor Jose Lothario on April 1.

Shawn also made his presence felt on January 25, the Raw is War after the Royal Rumble. Vince McMahon had just stepped down as the number one contender for the Rock's WWF World Title, when Shawn together with Steve Austin stated that Austin would get the spot. Another low blow to Team Corporate.

On February 14, 1999, Shawn came out on Sunday Night Heat when Vince McMahon called out Steve Austin. Shawn said that he would love to hit McMahon, but unfortunately it didn't happen. The next night at Raw is War, Shawn made a Ladder Match between the Rock and Mankind, which the Rock won to capture the WWF World Title.

At WrestleMania 15, March 28, 1999, Vince McMahon had appointed himself as the referee for the main event between the Rock and Steve Austin, but Shawn would have none of it and lead him away.

After getting married to Whisper and running his own federation the Texas Wresting Federation, Shawn made a return to the WWF on Raw is War, May 10, here he ordered a bunch of matches and declared himself the special referee for a match between Steve Austin, the Rock, and Vince McMahon against the Undertaker, Triple H, and Shane McMahon. Later he declared Debra the winner of an evening gown match, since he felt that the woman, who showed most skin should be declared the winner. After Austin had won the match for his team, he guzzled down a few beers with Austin.

Shawn returned to the WWF on Raw is War, June 21, he ordered a couple of matches and was the referee in a match between Steve Austin and the Big Boss Man in a match to determine the final stipulation in the match between Austin and the McMahons at King of the Ring. After Steve Austin had won the match, Shawn and Austin celebrated the victory with a couple of beers

Shawn also showed up at Sunday Night Heat before the King of the Ring, here he booked some matches to gain the McMahons a disadvantage. At the pay-per-view Shawn also sent his former ally Triple H to the back, when he tried to interfere in Chyna's match against Road Dogg. The McMahons also tried to fool the Heartbreak Kid, when Shane faked an injury, but Shawn sent him back to the ring to face Steve Austin.

Shawn made a surprise visit to the WWF at Raw is War, August 9. During an altercation between Triple H and Governor Jesse Ventura, Shawn made his way out and almost got into a scuffle with Triple H, when he announced that Triple H would take on the Undertaker and Steve Austin in a Triple Threat match later that night, where Shawn would serve as the special referee. The match ended when Steve Austin made his way down and brained Triple H with a chair and then placed Chyna on top of him, so she could score the pin.

Shawn was back in action again the following week, when he ordered Chyna to take on Mankind for the number one contender spot. Later in the show Shane McMahon announced a match between Mankind and Triple H, in which Shane would serve as the special referee, Shawn agreed to the match but also stated that he would serve as a special referee. The match was a typical Mankind vs Triple H all out brawl, but in the end both men fell down and were counted by Shawn and Shane, after some arguements it was announced that both Triple H and Mankind would go on to Summer Slam and face Steve Austin in a Triple Threat Match.

Various rumors have stated that the WWF want to renegotiate Shawn's contract, so that they won't have to pay him ,000 a week. Shawn nixed the idea and now the WWF has found a way to use him to their fullest. At Smackdown, August 26, Shawn stopped a verbal exchange between new WWF World Champion, Triple H and the Rock, and ordered a match between the two. Shane McMahon then wanted to tip the odds in favour of Triple H by assigning himself as referee, but Shawn took that position himself and told Shane that he would take on Mankind. In the match with the Rock against Triple H, Shawn had his problems with keeping Chyna and Shane at bay, but when the Rock went for the People's Elbow, Shawn struck him with the Sweet Chin Music to secure Triple H the win. After the match Shawn celebrated with Triple H, Chyna and Shane.

It has been awful little I have heard about Shawn since then, rumors about Shawn turning up in ECW flooded the Internet in December, but so far they haven't been true. Shawn however served as the guest referee in the match pitting H against Fake Hayabusa in FMW.

Shawn was challenged to a match for control of TWA and the TWA World Title by the champion Venom. The match was a bunkhouse brawl and took place on April 6, it was announced as Shawn's last wrestling match. It was a pure brawl featuring the usual use of several foreign objects. But Shawn also showed that he can still put on some spectacular moves, when he from the top of a ladder delivered an elbow drop to Venom. Later Venom took control, when he threw powder in Shawn's face and then used a kendo stick. Shawn was handcuffed to the top rope - Venom continued his assault and Shawn was a bloody mess. Shooter Schultz then came to Shawn's rescue and freed him, Shawn then powerslammed Venom through a table and nailed him with the Superkick to win the match, thereby regaining control of the company and to win the TWA World Title, which he then put up for graphs in a four man tournament.

At Raw is War, May 15, Shawn showed up - he talked about his priorities in his life - of course his wife and son had the highest priority, so he resigned as commissioner of the WWF. Shawn felt that it was his fault with the whole McMahon-Helmsley regime, so that was his reason to resign. This pleased Vince McMahon, but when Shawn stated that he was the official spokesperson for the World Wrestling Federation thanks to Linda McMahon - the smile was wiped off Vince's face. Shawn then announced that he would be the special referee in the Iron Man Match at Judgement Day pitting the Rock against Triple H for the WWF World Title. Vince then got in Shawn's face, but ended up on his butt after a shove from Shawn.

At Judgement Day, May 21, Shawn served as the special referee in the Iron Man Match pitting the Rock against Triple H. The Heartbreak Kid did a very good job and got in a shoving match with Triple H. When the clock was ticking down Shawn punched both Vince and Shane McMahon. However many fans seem to blame Shawn for the final, because Shawn disqualified the Rock after the Undertaker chokeslammed Triple H. This gave Triple H the victory and the WWF World Title.

At Raw is War, June 26, Shawn returned to the WWF to participate in the coronation ceremony of Kurt Angle, but instead Shawn wanted to make an announcement regarding the number one contender for the WWF World Title, this immediately brought out Triple H, who felt that he was the number one contender. But since Shawn wasn't WWF commissioner anymore, he couldn't make those decisions, Shawn then introduced the new commissioner - Mick Foley.

At Raw is War, October 9, Shawn was called to be at the show, here Shawn was accused of being Steve Austin's assailant at Survivor Series, but Shawn quickly shot down the speculations.
Then out of No where in June 2002 Kevin Nash said a new member of the nWo and then out came HBK Shawn Michaels. In August in a brutal Street Fight at Summer Slam Hbk defeated HHH but got attacked on his injured back. It was months before he made his Return to TV and then was Placed in the elimanation chamber at Survivor Series 2002. That night was a night for Underdogs as HBK pulled out the hard fought win. In Armegedon He lost to HHH and Got elimanated in the Royal Rumble by Chris Jericho as he tricked him. Now he's helpin Jeff Hardy and might be goin to Wrestlemania against Chris Jericho.
